In order to reduce security risk to university accounts, the connection protocol known as IMAP will be retired Monday, January 17, 2011.  This decision was made by the Data Security and Stewardship Committee after review by the Executive Council.

How does this change affect you?  You will be affected if any of these statements are true:

  • You are using a Blackberry mobile device configured by your wireless provider.
  • You are using an email program/client other than Microsoft Outlook or Entourage 2008.

What options are available if you are affected by this retirement? There are two ways to access university e-mail via Blackberry:

  • Free – “Pull” messages by connecting to Outlook Web Access using your mobile web browser.
  • Registered  – a mobile communication device website will be available soon describing in more detail this approach which will be available later this fall

If you are not using Outlook or Entourage 2008 as your e-mail program, please contact the IT Help Desk so that Microsoft Outlook or Entourage 2008 can be installed on your university computer.

If you have any questions, contact the IT Help Desk at 227-7487 or ithelp@wcu.edu.
