Beginning Monday, Sept. 13, three university divisions (IT, athletics, and student affairs) will begin a pilot of the Mobile Communication Device Program. The program features devices such as smartphones, e-mail devices, personal digital assistants and iPads to which the university automatically “pushes” data/e-mail.

The university has enacted the mobile communication device (MCD) policy to comply with various contractual, regulatory and statutory obligations to protect certain types of data such as those defined as protected information under HIPAA, FERPA and the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS).

The policy will go into effect for the entire campus on Monday, Jan. 17, 2011. More information and details will be made available pending the results of the pilot.

This program is being deployed in conjunction with the implementation of University Policy #68.
