Each month, the Division of IT hi-lights a service provided to the campus. This month’s service is:

Virus/Malware Monitoring and Removal

Service Description

Western Carolina University recommends that all students have an antivirus and malware scanner active on their personal computers. This helps ensure system and network security.

Antivirus tools are provided to all enrolled students as well as faculty and staff for home use.  The tools will monitor your computer and alert you to any viruses found.

Antivirus tools are offered to the WCU community in a variety of ways:

Faculty and staff, WCU-owned computers: Symantec Endpoint Protection is installed on university-owned computers attached to the WCU domain. This covers the majority of faculty and staff computers. This version is automatically updated with the latest virus information.

Students, personal computers: Avira Antivirus can be downloaded to computers owned by currently-enrolled students. This version is automatically updated by Avira with the latest virus information.

Faculty and staff, personal computers: Symantec Endpoint Protection can be downloaded to personal computers. This version is not automatically updated with the latest virus information. You can manually configure it to receive updates via Symantec’s LiveUpdate server as often as you would like.
