With the start of the new fiscal year on July 1, 2013, the Information Technology (IT) division took on the responsibility for the university’s telecommunications services. This move was part of the restructuring decisions announced in February based on the recommendations of the Chancellor’s Organizational Structure Review Task Force. Now, telecommunication services are managed by the IT department of Networking and Communications, the same group responsible for managing WCU’s networking services. In the past, all phone related services were handled by the Telecommunications Office in the division of Administration and Finance. Another organizational change made at the start of the fiscal year was the move of Auxiliary Services from Administration and Finance to the division of Student Affairs (except for Print Services that moved to the Chancellor’s division). The non-phone services handled by the Telecommunications Office, including cable TV services and Cat Card services, have transferred with Auxiliary Services to the Student Affairs division.
Rest assured, you can still use the phone online service request page to create requests related to adds, moves, changes, or other phone issues. Additionally, phone related billing and charges will not be changing at this time. As the Networking and Communications department reevaluates these systems, they will be looking for ways to improve the services through automation. They will also work with the campus budget office and others to evaluate the costs associated with providing current phone services and how to provide for future phone services and features.
You will find information about phone services on the IT division’s online service catalog at http://www.wcu.edu/academics/campus-academic-resources/it/itservices/network-internet/phone-service.asp. You may also contact the IT Help Desk for any phone issues you may be experiencing or continue to use the phone online service request site.
