You may have seen Zoom Video in the news lately for a variety of reasons.  At WCU, we take your security and privacy seriously, and we assure you that our IT leadership, IT security, and Zoom teams are monitoring our Zoom environment.  Zoom has experienced tremendous growth in the last year, and is facing increased scrutiny as a result of its popularity. Zoom has provided a public statement about its plans to focus all development efforts on security in the coming days.

For WCU users, Zoom offers numerous options to adjust the user experience and the default security settings for our meetings. The Division of IT is monitoring feedback from our users, and we are adjusting campus policy as needed to ensure Zoom sessions scheduled at WCU are as secure as they need to be. As we continue to monitor the situation, some security settings may be enabled campus-wide, if warranted.

Zoom provides many features to you as a host, allowing you to control access to your meetings. Please review our previously published article at DoIT News on “Zoom Crashers” , and review Zoom’s easy-to-follow guide to choose the right security options for your meetings at Best Practices for Securing Your Virtual Classroom.
