More than two years in the planning, the PAW (Print Anywhere at Western) Print system is now in place at WCU. Over 150 multi-function devices (so-called because they print, copy and scan) have been deployed to locations around the campus to serve student, faculty, and staff needs. The locations of the machines were chosen after careful study of the usage patterns of the machines they replaced. Many of the machines are color and some are equipped with FAX. Today, there are more machines with more capability than ever before on our campus.

The “Print Anywhere” feature

The “Print Anywhere” feature is available to faculty and staff members, but not yet available to students. This feature allows users to direct their print jobs to a special print queue, which can be released at many locations around the campus. For instance, if you are a faculty or staff member and the machine in your office is experiencing a problem, you can release the print job at a printer in a neighboring office. Before, you would have had to wait for the printer in your office to be repaired. In addition, since users’ departments are now billed directly via a computerized system, your departmental neighbor’s budget will not be impacted by your printing.

Benefits for students

Students also benefit from the new PAW Print system. Today, they can print in Hunter Library and three computer labs located around the campus by using CatCash, funds deposited in a debit account available on their CatCards. Coin printing also is available in Hunter Library at the same prices as using CatCash. With a goal of increased convenience in mind, students soon will be able to print directly from their own computers over the wireless network to many specially identified printers scattered around the campus, including residence halls.

Stay tuned for new features

WCU has a few more months of hard work to go before all the PAW Print features are fully implemented and available to users. As new features are turned on and tested, the information will be sent out via campuswide communications and postings to the PAW Print website located at http://www.wcu.edu/22953.asp. PAW Print system FAQs also are available at http://www.wcu.edu/24866.asp. Visit both of these sites often to get the latest information on PAW Print.
