The Division of Information Technology (DoIT) is changing the way it installs new university computers and reworks existing university computers for WCU faculty and staff. Through the use of new tools, DoIT is able to assist with the migration of data.

Getting a new computer can be an exciting experience, but the thought of losing access to all of your information on the old computer can be a little scary. Having your computer reworked is necessary at times to resolve issues, improve performance, or upgrade your operating system, but making sure you have your important data after the rework can be overwhelming. DoIT is here to help.

Through the use of new tools such as Windows Easy Transfer, Carbon Copy Cloner, and Data Migration Assistant for Mac, we are able to assist faculty and staff with the migration of data from an old university computer to a new university computer or from a current university computer to a safe and secure location and back to the computer.

The new data migration process includes not only documents from applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Publisher and Adobe Reader (.doc, .docx, .xls, .xlsx, .ppt, .pptx, .mdb, .accdb, .pub and .pdf), but also files that are often overlooked such as favorites, bookmarks, archived e-mail, desktop items and orphaned documents.

For more information on the data migration process, visit Setup and Refresh for WCU-owned Computers. If you have questions, call the IT Help Desk at 227-7487 or toll free at 866-928-7487 or visit the Technology Commons, located on the ground floor of Hunter Library. We are happy to help you.
