The Office of Web Services has upgraded the search engine on www.wcu.edu to use Google’s Custom Search Engine, a solution provided and hosted by Google.  When users search the university web site using the integrated search box located on every web page, they will continue to see the same relevant search results and “best bets” (highlighted search results) as before.  In addition, we have made some enhancements in implementing the new engine:

  • Search results are driven by the same algorithms used on Google.com, which means an increase in the relevance of search results.
  • Google hosts the software so we don’t have to maintain a search server on campus.
  • The search results page now allows users to filter results by site.  For example, someone could search just WCU News or The Reporter (see sample screenshot below).
