We launched OU Campus as our content management system, used to edit WCU webpages, April 1, 2013. This replaced RedDot, our content management system of several years. Implementing OU Campus allowed us to switch from a number-based page naming system, #.asp (example http://www.wcu.edu/15.asp), to a word/folder naming system (example http://www.wcu.edu/admissions/index.asp). All of the number-based pages were redirected to their corresponding new named pages.
This added approximately 10,000 pages to our server. We did this to transition between one naming system and another, not as a permanent dual-navigation plan.
We will be removing the 10,000 #.asp pages that are serving as redirects on April 1, 2014. This removal of pages will help search engines find the current WCU pages, as well as increasing the speed and usability of the OU Campus system for our users. Browsing to locate images and files will be much quicker.
All links to the #.asp pages must be corrected before April 1, 2014, or those links will be broken.
Directions for correcting these links have been made available to all of our campus web editors.
Additionally, all printed and electronic material (brochures, flyers, newsletters, forms, PowerPoints, PDFs) with URLs on them need to be updated. Please work with Creative Services to update all files. We will work with you on a case by case basis if this not feasible by the April 1 deadline.
We will be sending this notification on a monthly basis.
If you have any questions, concerns, issues with this transition, please contact Web Services via the Help Desk at x7487, ithelp@wcu.edu, or http://help.wcu.edu.
