The Curative Analysis team in IT is tasked with finding the causes of significant IT issues that affect campus. In this news update, we draw your attention to some of the problems being investigated or issues handled recently.

Personal Services Access: Personal Services access has been a known issue for some time in some K-12 schools, hospitals, and other government stations. Our Networking staff are currently working with the UNC System Office to explore options that could result in a solution that would fix this issue for anyone trying to connect from a military or similarly secured network.

Wi-Fi on Lab Computers:  It was discovered that Apple iMac lab computers try to connect to wi-fi, even when there is a wired connection. The Networking and Desktop Management teams are currently working together to remotely disable the wireless cards on those devices. A test script will be deployed to the iMacs in the Technology Commons. If the script is successful, we will deploy it to the remaining lab iMacs on campus.

Banner 9 Login Issues:  A recurring issue has developed which occasionally redirects users to an error page when attempting to log into Banner 9 Admin from banner.wcu.edu. The issue seems to occur when a large number of updates have been deployed. We will not have a large volume of updates to deploy until our next release cycle which is scheduled for July. The Banner vendor (Ellucian) will deliver a number of updates at the end of June, which will provide the opportunity for us to mimic the scenario. We have successfully deployed a few small updates since the last occurrence and have not experienced the issue.

Cell Service in HHS:  During a recent audit of cell service, we were alerted that of an issue with degraded Verizon cell service in HHS.  The distributed antenna system experienced a failure of the Verizon components. IT staff contacted AFL, the vendor who initially installed the distributed antenna system in HHS to begin the troubleshooting process.
