The Curative Analysis team in IT is tasked with finding the causes of significant IT issues that affect campus. In this news update, we draw your attention to some of the problems being investigated or issues handled recently.

Banner 9 Admin Login:  IT staff are working with the UNC-System Office to resolve a recurring issue which sporadically occurs when attempting to login to Banner 9 Admin. Users receive an error message stating “Invalid username/password; login denied.” Although the errors have nor occurred recently, support tickets remain opened with vendors Ellucian and Oracle and have been escalated to the highest priority to determine the cause.

Degree Audit:  Some students are reporting issues when running a degree audit. It is believed to be performance-related as occurrences were more frequent leading up to and during registration. The actual percent of occurrences in comparison to the number of degree audits performed is very low, even during peak registration. We have setup trace logs on the servers and hope to catch a more definitive error message if and when the issue occurs again.

Mercury (H: and P: drives) Share:  Recent issues with storage resulted in faculty and staff being unable to connect to the Mercury share. Access was returned after a reboot of the server. IT Division staff are currently working with the vendor to implement a permanent solution that will work moving forward. We have conducted multiple calls with the vendor who has also engaged storage engineers. We have updated multiple settings and immediately began work to migrate away from VMFS to iSCSI. All hands are working to get these systems migrated as quickly as possible.
