WCU provides DNS (Domain Name System) hosting services for the university as well as for qualifying related organizations. The DNS translates computer names to Internet Protocol (IP) addresses. This naming structure makes it easier to access resources on the internet or campus network.
Requirements/Limitations
In general, domain names for all computer systems, devices, and services at Western Carolina University will be assigned under the wcu.edu subdomain name. However, it is not necessary to register all domains with WCU IT and its name servers. Outside domain registrations are acceptable as long as the associated program or project is officially supported by a unit within Western Carolina University.
